A Broader Look at the Diagnosis, Symptoms and Treatments For Hemorrhoids
by Peter Garant
A medical condition that is identified by medical practitioners because of the swelling of veins at the lower rectum or anus, hemorrhoids can be caused by diarrhea, constipation, anal intercourse, aging and pregnancy. The development of hemorrhoids are commonly taken for granted by people but it is important that this medical condition be properly diagnosed and treated since it may have complications like hematochezia also known as rectal bleeding. The diagnosis of hemorrhoids will be easy if patients have background on the symptoms of this medical condition.
Most medical practitioners agree that the identification of the symptoms of hemorrhoids may confuse patients because its symptoms have similarities with other medical conditions. Some of the symptoms of this condition are abscesses, fistulae, fissures and other anorectal conditions. In many instances, the symptoms of hemorrhoids disappear in several days. However, there are times wherein patients have trouble in treating this condition, which is why patients should be able to determine the two types of hemorrhoids, which are protruding hemorrhoids, and thrombosed external hemorrhoids.
Based on medical researches, protruding hemorrhoids are hemorrhoids that are inside the anorectal part of our body that protruded through human anus. Because of protrusion, patients with such hemorrhoids experience irritation and painful bowel movements. On the other hand, thrombosed external hemorrhoids are blood clot around human anus, which cause patients to experience swelling of their rectum.
To diagnose whether a patient is suffering from hemorrhoids, a medical practitioner will conduct a digital rectal examination. Another effective method of diagnosing this medical condition is with the use of anoscope and proctoscope. These tools allow medical practitioners to see blood clots or swollen veins around the anus.
The common ways to treat hemorrhoids are the following: taking a bath using warm water several times in a day and the use of creams or ointments for hemorrhoids at the affected area. Hemorrhoids have tendencies to recur. To avoid the recurrence of this medical condition, patients must maintain proper diet and include fiber supplements in their meals. This will prevent constipation, which is the common cause of hemorrhoids.
Other medical methods may be used to treat hemorrhoids such as sclerotherapy, infrared coagulation and hemorrhoidectomy. Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure wherein a medical practitioner will inject a solution to the affected area to treat hemorrhoids. Meanwhile, infrared coagulation refers to the process wherein a special medical tool will be used by physicians to treat hemorrhoids. Lastly, hemorrhoidectomy is a surgical procedure used for the removal of hemorrhoids.
With the advancements in medical technology, this medical condition can now be treated. Thus, it is important that patients with hemorrhoids consult with physicians so that they will know the options for the removal and treatment of the medical condition. With the knowledge on the different methods for the treatment of hemorrhoids, patients are assured that the condition will not worsen or will not have complications.
